Journaling, Decompressing and finding yourself
There was a time when I was always on the go.
Between school, work, responsibilities, and trying to be everything for everyone, I never really had the chance to stop and ask myself one simple question:
“How am I actually feeling?”
Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. I would wake up, move through my routine, check off my to-do list, and go to bed, only to repeat it all over again. Somewhere in between the deadlines and the constant movement, I lost the habit of listening to myself.
It wasn’t because I didn’t have emotions.
It was because I never gave them a place to exist.
When Everything Feels Loud
Life has a way of becoming noisy.
Our phones never stop buzzing. There are emails to answer, people to text back, places to be, and expectations to meet. We become so focused on moving forward that we forget to pause.
Sometimes we don’t even realize we’re overwhelmed until the smallest inconvenience makes us cry.
Sometimes we’re carrying joy that deserves to be celebrated, but we’re already rushing to the next task before we can fully experience it.
Our emotions deserve more than passing thoughts.
They deserve space.
Why I Started Journaling
One day, I sat down with nothing but a pen and an empty page.
At first, I didn’t know what to write.
There wasn’t a perfect sentence waiting to be written. There wasn’t a profound life lesson. There were only scattered thoughts, unfinished feelings, and questions I had been avoiding.
So I wrote exactly that.
Slowly, something changed.
The more I wrote, the quieter my mind became.
The page never interrupted me.
It never judged me.
It simply listened.
And for the first time in a long time, I felt like I was listening to myself too.
Your Journal Doesn’t Need Perfect Words
One of the biggest misconceptions about journaling is that you have to be a good writer.
You don’t.
Your journal isn’t meant to impress anyone.
It’s not an essay.
It’s not a social media post.
It’s a conversation between you and yourself.
Some days you’ll write pages.
Other days you’ll write one sentence.
Both are enough.
A Place to Hold Your Story
The pages of a journal become more than paper.
They become evidence of your growth.
They hold your dreams before they become reality.
They remember the days you’ve forgotten.
They capture the tiny moments that, years from now, you’ll wish you could relive.
One day, you’ll read an old entry and realize just how far you’ve come.
That’s the beauty of journaling.
Begin Today
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply too busy to process life, let today be your invitation to slow down.
Light a candle.
Make a cup of tea.
Find a quiet corner.
Open a blank page.
Then ask yourself:
- What am I feeling today?
- What am I grateful for?
- What do I need right now?
- What am I holding onto that I should let go?
There are no wrong answers.
Only honesty.
